A friend alerted me to this New York Times' article -- "The War Over Salt" profiling the debate over the positive versus negative effects of salt. It also cites that the biggest chunk of salt in our diet comes from processed foods (like I had said in an earlier post). Ah, it's nice to validated by the New York Times. Here is the breakdown on salt consumption from the article:
- Three quarters of the salt Americans consume come from processed food (according to the Department of Agriculture.
- No more than 10 percent comes from the salt shaker.
- 10 percent is contained naturally in foods.
