Even when Ryan and I order the same menu item, I'm still envious of his food. I'll site last night as an example. We went to Mommfuku Ssam Bar on Second Ave. and 13th and ordered the Original Momofuku Ssam with rice, Berkshire pork, roasted onions, edamame, pickled shiitake and red kimchi puree rolled into a flour pancake. The only difference was that he ordered black beans in his. Now look at the results:
This is mine..
And now for Ryan's ssam:
Clearly, I had the inferior wrap. Just look! His is stuffed to the max of what the flour pancake could hold! Mine was neat and orderly.. His was sloppy, with the pork and kimchi puree oozing out. I roughly counted 25 edamame in his wrap whereas I had a measly 10 to 12. In his defense, he did offer to trade with me but clearly I have issues and need to accept his menu superiority.
And as far as Momofuku Ssam goes, the wraps were a tasty mix of Asian foods and condiments but I don't think it'll be on the list of "items I crave on a constant basis." And what's with Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper being the only soda option? Is that what pairs well with an Asian wrap?
Before they opened the Ssam bar, Momofuku served Ssam for lunch at their original restaurant...maybe they still do, I'm not sure. Anyway, THAT was superior to what's a the Ssam bar. I think they used tender pork belly, so the meat was better. So you can rest assured that Ryan didn't order the superior ssam after all!
